Welcome/Bienvenue

to Mme Kennedy's Grade 5 homeroom

What a great start to the Grade 5 year!  Time continues to fly by!  The following is an overview of what is happening in our classroom.

TERM 1

FRENCH LANGUAGE   

In French we have been working on our short anwers using a style we call the A.P.E. format.  Students now know to respond to a question using A ~  to answer using part of the question.  P ~ to prove their anwer.  E ~ to extend their answer by referencing from the text or their personal experiences. 

We also continue to focus on the Present tense verbs.  To date, we have been studying the -ER group of present tense verbs.  We will begin shortly looking at the -RE group of verbs and around late November / early December we will begin to study the -IR group of verbs.

In reading, we have been working on guided and independant reading.  Soon, we will begin our guided reading/literature circles.

CHEZ MOI ~ continues to be handed out on Monday and due on Thursday.  Please note that there is now a reading log that students are to complete each week to go along with their French Novel.  This is included in their "chez moi" folder.

Dictée ~ our dictée is now on Thursday as the 5 day cycle has been changed because of Thanksgiving.

MATH

In math we have finished up our Number Sense and Numeration unit looking at numbers to 100 000.  Most students have returned their quiz signed, Thank you!  We have moved on to our Patterning unit which looks at patterns in numbers and T- tables.  This unit also becomes part of our graphing unit as students learn to graph coordinates.

SCIENCE  

In science we continue our unit on the human body.  Research projects are well underway.  Please watch agendas for weekly due dates.   Thank you to Mrs. Larsen for helping our class with the adventure.
