Parent/Family Literacy & Best Start Hub to Open at UPS after March Break

63001xehfr0nrifParent and Family Literacy Best Start Hubs are run as partnerships, with the Board providing the space, and programming run in partnership with an array of Best Start Early Years agencies. The Hubs offer an array of programs aimed at early years learning for children from birth to age five and their parents. All programs are free of charge for children and their parents.

The goal is to better prepare future students for school, bridging the entry level gap often seen amongst Kindergarteners, and forging connections between schools and parent and student communities.

4Rs of Bullying Prevention

handsUxbridge Public School works with students in a number of ways to deal with bullying. Working proactively to prevent bullying and intervening when it does occur is a year-round focus. Part of that focus includes reminding students of the 4Rs of bullying prevention:

• to recognize or discern what is and is not bullying;
• to refuse to accept bullying behaviour;
• to report by speaking to a trusted adult or accessing Kids Help Phone; and,
• to restore or repair relationships.

Our school focuses on finding solutions that help and support both the student who does the bullying and the target.

Promoting Active Living at UPS

sports
Canadian schools are criticized for contributing to rising rates of childhood obesity by promoting a deskbound existence. While it is certainly true that our society in general has grown increasingly less active over recent decades, here at Uxbridge Public School physical activity and healthy eating is promoted. It is a concern for educators, because research tells us that physically active students are not only healthier and happier, but also learn better. That's why our school promotes daily, healthy, active eating and activity.
